About the Work Comp Changemakers© Awards

The Work Comp Changemakers© Awards are not lifetime achievement honors. Instead, they recognize emerging and established professionals who, over the past 2–5 years, have demonstrated:

  • Courageous leadership and innovation
  • Measurable impact and industry-wide influence
  • Integrity, collaboration, and resilience

A commitment to pushing the workers’ compensation system forward in meaningful ways

How Honorees Were Selected

Our multi-phase selection process was designed to balance community insight with mission alignment. It included four key rounds:

Round 1: Peer Nominations

Each advisory committee member nominated exactly five individuals who exemplified the spirit of a Changemaker. Nominations were based on clearly defined criteria focused on integrity, innovation, leadership, and contribution to the workers’ compensation ecosystem.

Round 2: Advocacy Round

Committee members championed nominees they did not originally nominate by selecting nominees, reviewing their nomination and delivering short oral presentations about them to the committee. Each presentation was followed by a group discussion, which helped the committee surface new insights and better understand the nominee’s contributions—especially when members were less familiar with their work.

Round 3: Ranked Scoring

After hearing all advocacy presentations, each participating committee member ranked every finalist. These rankings served as the foundation for our scoring model.

Round 4: Purpose-Driven Weighting

To ensure each finalist aligned with the Changemaker mission’s core values, final scores were slightly adjusted using a simple weighting system. This allowed the program founders to reflect not only on peer input but also on the nominee’s alignment with improving the workers’ compensation ecosystem, integrity, and mission relevance.
